பயிற்சி · Kolam practice
Trace a little each day until the line runs smooth from the first dot to the last.
How to practise a kolam
Pick a design
A small kolam at your level is ready for you. Choose another from the designs, or pick a level from the ladder.
Trace over the guide
Start at the glowing ring and follow the faint line with a finger, pen or mouse. Press Check to see your stars.
Draw from the dots
When the stars come easily, let the guide fade until only the dots are left. Hint shows the lines for a moment.
Good to know
- Draw slowly at first. A steady line scores better than a quick one, and speed comes by itself.
- Sikku kolam is one long line around the dots. Try to keep your finger down from start to finish.
- Colour areas are not traced here. Draw the lines, then bring colour in with Make it yours.
- Turn on Mirror practice to draw the same kolam the other way round. It is a lovely test of memory.
Questions people ask
How are the stars worked out?
Two things are measured: how much of the kolam's line you drew over, and how much of your drawing sits on the line. The smaller of the two gives the stars: 3 stars from 85%, 2 from 65%, 1 from 40%.
How do I open the next level?
Get 3 stars on any design at your highest open level with the faint guide or from the dots alone. The next level opens straight away, and every level you have opened stays open.
My finger is not very exact. Can it be easier?
Yes. In Options choose How close: Easy, and turn on Snap to the line. Your line then settles onto the kolam whenever it comes near.
Can I practise on paper?
Press Print practice sheet. It prints the kolam in pencil beside the same dots without lines, so you can trace one and draw the other.
Is my drawing sent anywhere?
No. The drawing, your stars and your level stay in this browser on this device.
