கோலம் கற்க · Learn a kolam

Watch it come alive slowly, then draw the very same at your own doorstep.

Thanks

இன்றைய கோலம் · Kolam of the day

Every kolam begins with a single dot

Kolam is a morning gift at the doorstep: a few dots, one flowing line, a splash of colour. Here you watch a design being drawn the way a hand draws it, dots first, then each line, then each colour, with plain words for every step and a pace you can slow right down.

கோலம் கற்பது எப்படி · How to learn a kolam

  1. புள்ளி வை · Place the dots

Watch the dots go down first, row by row. On the floor, pinch the powder and set each dot evenly; the dots are the bones of the whole design.

  2. கோடு இழு · Draw the line

Follow the orange pen from the green start ring. Slow lets you see every curve; Again replays a step until it feels natural in your hand.

  3. வண்ணம் தீட்டு · Fill the colour

Colours come last, one area at a time. Then trace it with your finger in Practice, or make it your own in Create.

Questions people ask

The drawing is too fast for me. What can I do?

Choose Slow under Speed: the line then moves at an easy hand pace. You can pause at any moment, step back, or press Again to see one step drawn once more.

Which kolam do I see without choosing one?

The kolam of the day. It is the same for everyone and changes at midnight in India. Choose any other design from the designs page.

What do the green ring and the orange dot mean?

The green ring is where your hand starts the line. The orange dot is the tip of your hand as it draws, so you can follow it with your eyes and then with your finger.

Can it read the steps aloud?

Yes. Turn on Read aloud and your device reads each step in English with its own voice. Nothing is downloaded or sent anywhere.

Is my progress saved?

The kolams you watch, save and draw are kept in this browser on this device only. There is no account and nothing is sent to a server.
