கோல வடிவங்கள் · Kolam designs

A small one for a busy Monday, a grand one for Pongal, and everything in between.

Thanks

Every kolam here began as an idea on a dot grid or around a centre. Wander through them like an exhibition: pick a kind below, narrow by the time you have and the place you will draw it, and press the heart on the ones you love.

How to find your next kolam

  1. Choose a kind

Sikku kolam loops around dots, pulli kolam joins them, padi kolam builds steps around a centre and rangoli fills shapes with colour. Press a picture to see that kind.

  2. Narrow it to your day

Open Filters for level, time, place, festival, dots, lines or colour. Every choice has its Tamil and English name, and you can remove any one with its cross.

  3. Watch, trace or remix

Open a design to watch it drawn, use Trace to practise it, or Remix to make it your own.

Good to know

  • Short on time at dawn? Up to 5 min under Time shows small kolams that fit a busy morning.
  • One line, hand never lifted, shows the sikku kolams drawn in a single unbroken line, a lovely challenge once the basics feel easy.
  • Lines only designs suit a white powder kolam at the door; With colour suits festivals and contests.
  • The heart keeps a design in My saved on this device, like a notebook of patterns to come back to.

Questions people ask

Which kolam should a beginner start with?

Pick Beginner or Easy under Level and Up to 5 under Dots. A small sikku kolam on a 3 or 5 dot grid, or a pulli kolam on 5 to 3 interlaced dots, takes a few minutes and teaches the hand the basic curve and the straight joining line.

What does One of each kind do?

Many designs are close cousins: the same grid drawn with small changes. With One of each kind on, the gallery shows one design from each set so you see the widest variety. Turn it off to see every cousin.

How do I find a kolam for Pongal, Margazhi or a wedding?

Open Filters and choose the day or festival, and the place you will draw it, such as the home entrance, the pooja room or a function hall. You can also type a word like lotus, star or deepam in the search box.

Where are my saved designs kept?

Press the heart on any design. Saved designs stay in this browser on this device, with nothing to sign up for. Press My saved to see them together.

Can I share the designs I found?

Yes. Every filter is part of the page address, so copying the link shares exactly the designs you are looking at.
