How it is calculated
Every group has one base unit (metre, kilogram, square metre, litre, second, byte and so on). A value is first changed into the base unit, then into each other unit.
result = value × size of the unit you have ÷ size of the unit you want
°F = °C × 9 ÷ 5 + 32 · K = °C + 273.15 · l/100 km = 100 ÷ km/l
Land units used here: 1 cent = 435.6 sq ft, 1 ground = 2,400 sq ft, 1 ankanam = 72 sq ft, 1 guntha = 1,089 sq ft, 1 marla = 272.25 sq ft, 1 kanal = 20 marla, 1 acre = 43,560 sq ft, 1 hectare = 10,000 m². The bigha uses the size you pick.
How to convert units
Pick what you measure
Choose a group such as Length, Weight, Area and land or Temperature from the grid.
Type in any box
Type a number in the box of the unit you have. Every other unit updates at once.
Copy what you need
Use the From and To row with Swap for a single answer, set the decimals, and copy one answer or the whole list.
Good to know
- You can type in any box in the list, not only the From box. The unit you typed in is shown in bold.
- A bigha differs by state. Set its size before converting land papers, or type the size in square feet.
- One unit on a power bill is one kilowatt hour (kWh).
- A 1 TB drive shows about 931 GiB on a computer: compare TB with GiB in Data size to see why.
- Copy link keeps the group, units and value in the address, so you can send the same answer.
Questions people ask
How many square feet are in a cent, a ground and an acre?
One cent is 435.6 sq ft (one hundredth of an acre). One ground is 2,400 sq ft. One acre is 43,560 sq ft, which is 100 cents or 40 guntha. One hectare is about 2.47 acres.
Why does a bigha have different sizes?
A bigha is a local land measure and its size changes from state to state, and sometimes from district to district. Pick the size used where the land is, or type your own in square feet. Check the size on the land papers before you rely on it.
What is the difference between KB and KiB?
KB, MB and GB count in thousands: 1 KB is 1,000 bytes. KiB, MiB and GiB count in powers of 1,024: 1 KiB is 1,024 bytes. Storage makers use KB and GB, while many computers show sizes in KiB and GiB, which is why a 1 TB drive shows about 931 GB.
How do I convert km/l to litres per 100 km?
Divide 100 by the km/l figure. A bike that gives 50 km/l uses 2 litres per 100 km; a car at 15 km/l uses about 6.67 litres.
How exact are the answers?
The unit sizes are the exact legal definitions where there is one (1 inch is exactly 2.54 cm, 1 pound is exactly 0.45359237 kg). Answers show up to 10 significant digits, or the number of decimals you pick. Month and year in Time are averages.
