History

Press = and each sum is kept here, even after you close the page. Tap one to use it again.

How to use the scientific calculator

  1. Type or tap a sum

Use the keys or your keyboard. The sum is drawn as real maths and the answer shows as you type.

  2. Press = to keep it

The answer goes into the history. Tap any line in the history to use it again, or Use to put its answer into a new sum.

  3. Solve or draw

Open Solve for equations with step-by-step working, or Graph to draw curves and see where they cross.

Good to know

  • Keys: Enter is =, Esc clears, Backspace deletes, the up arrow brings back earlier sums.
  • 2nd turns sin into sin⁻¹, ln into eˣ, log into 10ˣ and x² into x³. hyp gives sinh, cosh and tanh.
  • Write 2π, 3(4 + 1) or 5 sin 30 without a times sign. Brackets left open at the end are closed for you.
  • 200 + 10% is 220 and 200 − 25% is 150, the way shop calculators work.
  • Constants: tap the atom key for π, e and physical constants like the speed of light (c₀) and gravity (gₙ).
  • Ctrl+C with nothing selected copies the answer, or the working on the Solve tab.

Where people use it

  • Homework with working

Type a quadratic or cubic equation and read every step in plain words, ready to copy into your notebook.

  • Exam practice

Check trig in degrees or radians, logs, nPr and nCr, and exact fractions before the paper.

  • Loan and savings sums

Work a monthly payment or compound interest formula and see it drawn as real maths. For a full plan, use the EMI calculator.

  • Physics and engineering

Use constants like the speed of light and gravity, engineering notation and units inside the sum.

  • Picture a function

Draw several curves, drag and zoom, and see where they cross the x line and each other.

  • Quick unit changes

Type 420 km to mi or 30 degC to degF. For a full list of units, use the unit converter.

Why this one

It writes out the working for linear, quadratic and cubic equations and for two or three equations together, with exact fractions and roots.

  • Answers show as you type, with the sum drawn as real maths.
  • Exact decimals and fractions, so 0.1 + 0.2 is exactly 0.3.
  • Equations solved step by step, not just the answer.
  • History and memory are kept on your device for next time.

What you can change

  • Degrees, radians or grads
  • Decimal or fraction answers
  • Normal, scientific or engineering notation
  • 2nd and hyperbolic keys

Questions people ask

How do I switch between degrees and radians?

Tap DEG, RAD or GRAD above the display, or press the angle key on the keypad to step through them. You can also write 30° in any sum to mean 30 degrees whatever the setting.

Why does 0.1 + 0.2 give exactly 0.3 here?

Most calculators on computers use binary numbers, so 0.1 + 0.2 comes out as 0.30000000000000004. This one works with 64-digit decimal numbers, so ordinary sums come out exact.

How do I get the answer as a fraction?

Choose Fraction under Answers, or press S⇔D. Sums with plain numbers then stay exact, so 1/3 + 1/6 shows 1/2. Things like sin and square roots still give decimals.

How do I convert units?

Type a number, its unit, the word to and the unit you want: 5 km to mi, 70 kg to lb or 30 degC to degF. Units also work inside sums, like 2 hour + 45 minute to minute.

Can it solve equations and show the working?

Yes. Open the Solve tab and type an equation such as 2x² + 3x − 5 = 0. Straight-line, quadratic and cubic equations, and two or three equations together, are solved exactly with every step written out in plain words.

What do nPr and nCr mean?

nPr counts the ways to pick r things from n when order matters, like gold, silver and bronze. nCr counts them when order does not matter, like picking a team. nCr(5, 2) is 10.

Is my history kept, and is it private?

Your history, memory and last sum are kept in this browser so they are there next time. Everything is worked out on your device and nothing is sent anywhere.
