How to turn text into handwriting

  1. Type your text

Write in the box or pick a sample. Use Insert for a heading, a margin note, blank space, a picture, a sketch or a new page.

  2. Pick the hand, paper and pen

Choose a handwriting style, paper and ink, then set Messiness from neat school writing to rushed notes. Click a line on the page to jump to it in the text.

  3. Download

Download all pages as one PDF, all pages as pictures in a ZIP, or one page at a time. Ctrl+C copies the page you are looking at as a picture.

Good to know

  • Click the band above the first line for a title, name or date, the margin for a note beside that line, or any line to write there. The text box follows.
  • Messiness moves everything together: at the left it is careful school writing, in the middle an everyday hand, at the right rushed notes. Advanced changes letter variation, line drift, spacing, slant and ink on their own.
  • Style a part gives the selected words their own hand or ink, such as a red correction. Your own fonts appear under My fonts and stay on this device.
  • Page setup has the page size, download quality up to 600 dpi, margins, the line gap and exact word and letter spacing. A photo of your own paper can be lined up by dragging the lines onto it.
  • Ballpoint ink skips and runs thin now and then, gel stays even, fountain pen ink pools where each letter starts, and pencil is soft and grainy.
  • Undo and Redo (Ctrl+Z, Ctrl+Shift+Z) cover text, pictures, drawings and every style change.

Questions people ask

Does it look like real handwriting?

Yes. Every letter is drawn on its own with its own small turn, lift, size, slant and pen pressure, so the same letter never looks the same twice. Lines drift and wander, gaps open up towards the end of a line, and each pen behaves like the real one.

How do I write more than one page?

Just keep typing: text flows onto the next page by itself. To start a fresh page on purpose, press New page, or Add page under the pages. Click any page in the strip to see it.

Can I type straight onto the page?

Yes. Click the title band, the margin or any line on the page and type. The text box follows along, and Undo works the same everywhere.

Can I use my own handwriting font?

Yes. Open the handwriting list and choose Use my own handwriting font to add .ttf, .otf, .woff or .woff2 files. Your font stays on this device and appears under My fonts.

Can I add my own drawing or a photo?

Yes. Use Insert to leave blank lines for drawing on paper later, add a picture or photo (it can look like a pencil sketch), or draw a sketch on screen that is written in your pen and ink.

Can I write in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Spanish or French?

Yes. Pick the language and a matching hand is chosen for you. Accents in Spanish and French are written like the other letters. If you mix languages, words switch to a matching hand on their own.

Is my text uploaded?

No. The pages are drawn in your browser. Only the handwriting style itself is downloaded once; your words, pictures and drawings never leave this device.
