How to use the stopwatch
Press Start
Press Start or the Space key. The time runs in big digits that you can read from across the room.
Mark laps
Press Lap or the L key at each round. Every lap shows its own time and the total so far; the fastest and slowest laps are marked.
Pause, copy or save
Pause with Space, then Resume or Reset. Copy the laps or download them as a CSV file for a spreadsheet.
Good to know
- Keys: Space starts and pauses, L marks a lap, R resets, F opens full screen and Esc leaves it.
- Close the tab by mistake? Open the page again: a running stopwatch carries on from where it was.
- Full screen makes the digits as large as the screen allows, good for a class, a game or a workout.
- Lap times are kept to the hundredth of a second; the CSV also has each lap in plain seconds for sums.
Questions people ask
How accurate is this stopwatch?
It reads the computer's high precision clock each time it draws, so it does not drift. The display shows hundredths of a second; your own press of the button is the slowest part.
Does it keep time if I switch tabs or lock the phone?
Yes. The timer remembers the moment it started and works out the time from the clock, so it stays right in a background tab and even after a reload. A phone that sleeps may delay the sound until you open it again, so keep the screen on for alarms; the page asks the phone to keep the screen awake while a timer runs.
What is the difference between lap time and total time?
Lap time is how long that one round took. Total time is the stopwatch reading when you pressed Lap, also called the split.
Can I save the laps?
Yes. Copy puts them on the clipboard as text, and CSV downloads a file you can open in any spreadsheet.
Is anything sent to a server?
No. The stopwatch runs in your browser and saves only on this device.
