How to make and study flashcards

  1. Make your cards

Paste a list such as apple - manzana, paste your class notes, or open a PDF or Word file. Or pick a ready deck.

  2. Study your way

Flip the cards, run a smart review, take a quick quiz or race the clock in Match.

  3. Come back each day

Smart review shows only the cards due today. Print, share a link or download the deck for later.

Good to know

  • Put a dash, colon, equals sign or tab between a word and its meaning, one card per line.
  • In your notes, sentences like Osmosis is the movement of water... become cards. Wrap a word in {{double braces}} to make a fill-in-the-blank card.
  • Smart review works best a few minutes each day. Press Good when you remembered, Again when you did not.
  • Answer with the front turns every card around, handy for language decks both ways.
  • Star the hard cards while you flip, then study only the starred ones.
  • Fold cards print the front and back side by side, so no two-sided printer is needed.

Questions people ask

Is the flashcard maker free? Do I need an account?

It is free to use and there is no sign-up. Your decks are kept in this browser on this device.

Are my notes or files uploaded?

No. Lists, notes, PDFs and Word files are read on your device. A share link carries the deck inside the link itself, after the # sign, which browsers never send to a server.

How does smart review decide what I see?

Each card remembers how well you knew it. Cards you find easy come back after days or weeks, hard ones come back soon, and a missed card returns in the same session.

Can I bring cards from another app?

Yes. Most card apps can export a text or CSV file with one card per line. Paste it or open the file here and the cards are read straight away.

How do I print flashcards?

Open a deck and press Print. Cut-out cards put 8 on a page with the backs on the next page, lined up for two-sided printing. Fold cards need no two-sided printer.
