Questions people ask
What is nalla neram?
Nalla neram is the good time of the day for starting new work, as printed on Tamil daily sheets. There is one in the morning and one in the evening.
How is rahu kalam worked out?
The time from sunrise to sunset is split into eight parts, and one part is rahu kalam depending on the weekday. Since sunrise changes with your city and the season, so does rahu kalam.
What is nazhigai?
Nazhigai is the old way of counting time from sunrise. One nazhigai is 24 minutes, so a day has 60 nazhigai. The sheet shows tithi and star end times both in clock time and in nazhigai.
What is the difference between Drik and Vakya?
Drik works out the sky as it really is, so the tithi and star times match the Moon you can see. Vakya is the old table method still used by some almanacs. Times can differ by a few minutes to a few hours, and a Tamil month can start a day apart.
Is my city or location sent anywhere?
No. The whole calendar is worked out in your browser from the positions of the Sun and Moon. Your city is remembered on this device only, and Near me picks the closest city without sending your location anywhere.
