Questions people ask
What is durmuhurtham?
Durmuhurtham is a short period in the day, about 48 minutes, kept away from good works. Some days have two.
What are varjyam and amrita kalam?
Both come from the day's nakshatram. Varjyam is a period kept away from new starts, and amrita kalam is a very good period.
Which month system is used?
Amanta, as followed in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana: each month ends on Amavasya, and the year starts at Ugadi.
What is the difference between Drik and Vakya?
Drik works out the sky as it really is, so the tithi and star times match the Moon you can see. Vakya is the old table method still used by some almanacs. Times can differ by a few minutes to a few hours, and a Tamil month can start a day apart.
Is my city or location sent anywhere?
No. The whole calendar is worked out in your browser from the positions of the Sun and Moon. Your city is remembered on this device only, and Near me picks the closest city without sending your location anywhere.
