How to clean up text

  1. Paste or open your text

Paste into the box, drop a text file on it or press Open. Big files stay out of the box and are read in the background.

  2. Stack your steps

The recipe runs left to right. Press Add a step for spaces, lines, sorting, numbers, find and replace or links, or start from a ready recipe. Tap a step to change it, switch it off or move it.

  3. Check and copy

The counts show what each step removed and Changes marks it line by line. Press Copy, Ctrl+C with nothing selected, or Download.

Good to know

  • Order matters: tidy spaces before removing duplicates, so lines that differ only by a stray space count as the same.
  • Your recipe is remembered in this browser. Come back tomorrow and the same steps are ready.
  • Use as input moves the result into the box, so you can keep going with a fresh recipe.
  • Changes shows each changed line with removed spaces as dots and tabs as arrows, so even invisible fixes are easy to see.
  • Big files are fine. Drop a text file of 50 MB or more: the work happens in the background, the page stays smooth, and Download saves the full result.

Questions people ask

What does a recipe do?

A recipe is a list of clean-up steps that run one after another on your text. Each step works on the result of the one before it. You can switch a step off to see the difference, drag it to a new place, or remove it.

Can I undo a step?

Your original text is never changed. The result is worked out fresh every time you change the recipe, so switching a step off or removing it brings the text back at once.

What are invisible characters?

Text copied from web pages, PDFs and chat apps often carries non-breaking spaces and zero-width spaces. They look like nothing but break searches, sorting and spreadsheets. Tidy spaces turns odd spaces into normal ones and removes the zero-width ones.

Will it change the line breaks of my file?

No. Windows line breaks stay Windows line breaks unless you add the Line endings step to change them.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. Every step runs in your browser, on your own device. Nothing you paste or open is sent to a server or kept anywhere except this page.
