An estimate at a steady return. Real returns go up and down and are not promised.
How it is calculated
SIP value = P × ((1 + i)^n − 1) ÷ i × (1 + i)
P is the monthly amount, i is the monthly return (yearly return ÷ 12 ÷ 100) and n is the number of months. Each instalment is counted at the start of its month. ₹10,000 a month at 12% for 10 years grows to about ₹23.2 lakh on ₹12 lakh invested.
With a step-up the monthly amount rises by that percent every 12 months, and the value is added up month by month. Lump sum = amount × (1 + r)^years with r the yearly return. Goal planner finds the monthly amount whose value equals the goal. Today's value = value ÷ (1 + inflation)^years.
How to plan a SIP
Pick SIP, lump sum or goal
SIP shows what a monthly amount grows to. Lump sum shows one-time money. Goal works backwards from a target such as ₹50 lakh.

Good to know
- Starting five years earlier often does more than doubling the amount later, because the early money compounds longest.
- Try the goal planner with a lower return, such as 9 or 10%, so your plan does not depend on a great decade.
- A step-up of 5 to 10% a year keeps the SIP in line with a growing salary without feeling heavy.
- Every input is kept in the page link, so Copy link shares the exact plan with family.
- Ctrl+C with nothing selected copies the summary.
Questions people ask
What is a SIP?
A Systematic Investment Plan puts a fixed amount into a mutual fund every month. Over years, each month's money grows and the growth itself grows, which is compounding.
What return should I expect?
Nobody can promise one. Equity funds in India have often given 10 to 12% a year over long periods, debt funds 6 to 8%, but past returns do not repeat exactly. Try a lower rate too, so the plan still works if markets are weak.
What is a step-up SIP?
You raise the monthly amount by a fixed percent every year, usually in line with your salary hike. Even a 10% step-up makes a large difference to the final value.
Why show today's value?
Prices rise every year, so ₹1 crore in 20 years buys much less than ₹1 crore today. Today's value divides the future amount by inflation, so you can judge what it will really buy.
Are taxes and fund charges included?
No. The figures are before tax and assume the expected return is after the fund's expense ratio. Gains on mutual funds are taxed when you sell.
