How the age is worked out
The calculator steps forward from the date of birth one whole month at a time until the next step would pass the target date. Those months make the years and months, and the days left over are counted one by one.
age = whole months from birth ÷ 12 → years, remainder → months, then days
A month that is shorter than the birth date is clamped to its last day, so someone born on 31 January is one month old on 28 February. Totals count calendar days, so changes to clocks never shift the answer. For an age limit, a person is old enough once the birthday for the minimum age has come, and too old from the birthday after the maximum age.

Good to know
- Typing 15081995 with no slashes works too; it is read as 15/08/1995.
- Age limits often allow extra years for some groups. Add those years to the maximum age before you check.
- Born on 29 February? In other years your birthday is taken as 28 February.

Questions people ask
How is age counted in years, months and days?
Whole years first, then whole months, then the days left over. A month is counted from the same date in the next month, so 15 March to 15 April is one month, whatever the number of days in March.
How do I check the age limit for an exam or job form?
Choose Age limit check, type the cut-off date from the notice (often 1 January or 1 August), and the lower and upper age. You see eligible or not, how many days short or over, and the range of birth dates that pass.
What does 'not more than 32 years' mean?
Forms usually mean you must not have reached your 33rd birthday on the cut-off date. Someone who is 32 years and 11 months old still passes. This tool counts it that way. Always read the notice, as some forms say it differently.
I was born on 29 February. When is my birthday?
In years without 29 February, this tool takes 28 February as the birthday, so a year of age is complete on that day. Some rules use 1 March instead; the difference is one day.
Is my date of birth saved or sent anywhere?
No. The sums run in your browser. Nothing is stored or sent. A shared link carries the dates only if you copy it and send it yourself.
