How it is calculated

Add GST: GST = price × rate ÷ 100, total = price + GST

Remove GST: price before GST = total × 100 ÷ (100 + rate), GST = total − price

For ₹1,180 at 18%: 1,180 × 100 ÷ 118 = ₹1,000, so the GST inside is ₹180. Within the same state it is split into CGST ₹90 (9%) and SGST ₹90 (9%). To another state it is IGST ₹180 (18%). Each line is rounded to the paisa.

How to calculate GST

  1. Pick add or remove

Add GST when your price is before tax. Remove GST when the price already includes tax and you want the base price and the tax inside it.

  2. Enter amount and rate

Type the amount and tap a GST rate, or type your own rate. Choose same state for CGST and SGST, or other state for IGST.

  3. Copy or add items

Copy the summary, or switch to Several items to work out a small bill with different rates and download it as CSV.

Good to know

  • Rates as commonly used; the rate for an item depends on its HSN or SAC code and can change, so check the current rate before you bill.
  • Union territories without a legislature charge UTGST in place of SGST; the split is the same half and half.
  • Every input of One amount is kept in the page link, so Copy link shares the exact calculation.
  • Ctrl+C with nothing selected copies the summary.
  • This works out tax only. It is not a tax invoice; your billing software or accountant issues that.

Questions people ask

How do I add 18% GST to a price?

Multiply the price by 18 and divide by 100 to get the tax, then add it. ₹1,000 + 18% GST is ₹1,000 + ₹180 = ₹1,180.

How do I find the price before GST?

Divide the price that includes GST by (100 + rate) and multiply by 100. For ₹1,180 at 18%: 1,180 × 100 ÷ 118 = ₹1,000, so the GST in it is ₹180. Choose Remove GST to do this.

When is it CGST and SGST, and when is it IGST?

A sale within the same state is charged half as CGST (central) and half as SGST (state), so 18% is 9% + 9%. A sale to another state is charged the full rate as IGST.

Which GST rate applies to my item?

It depends on the item's HSN or SAC code, and rates are revised from time to time. Check the current rate for your item before you bill. This calculator works with any rate you type.

Why do CGST and SGST differ by a paisa sometimes?

When the tax has an odd number of paise it cannot split evenly. The calculator puts the extra paisa in SGST so the two always add up to the total tax.
