How to draw a wedding kolam

  1. When and where

    Draw them in the days before the wedding at the house, and on the day at the hall entrance and the stage.

  2. Draw the design

    Draw a large design at the hall entrance and in front of the stage. Mark the centre and the size with chalk first.

  3. Finish and enjoy

    Add colour if you like, light a lamp beside it, and step back to enjoy it. Take a photo before the day wears it away.

Good to know

  • Most designs here take 3 to 18 minutes. The first few are the easiest, so start there.
  • Practise on the printed dot sheet first. The hand learns the turns on paper, then the floor is easy.
