About Kojagari Lakshmi Puja

Kojagari Lakshmi Puja is held on the full moon after Durga Puja, the night of Sharad Purnima, in October. Bengali, Odia and Assamese homes welcome Goddess Lakshmi, who is believed to visit Maa Durga's home soon after Bijoya.

Kojagari comes from "Ko jagarti?", who is awake? The Goddess is said to roam the earth on this full moon and bless those who stay awake in prayer.

Families draw alpana with little footprints leading to the altar, worship the Goddess with a kalash, conch and lamps, read the Lakshmi Panchali and offer khichuri, labra, fruit and narkel naru. Neighbours share the bhog late into the night. Diwali's Lakshmi Puja wishes are on the Diwali page.
