Hola Mohalla blessings and prayers (16)

May the Guru grant us the courage of a soldier and the humility of a saint.
Guru Gobind Singh Ji turned a festival of colours into a festival of courage. May that courage live in us.
May we use our strength only to protect the weak and stand for the truth.
May Waheguru keep us in Chardi Kala, in rising spirits, whatever life brings.
Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh. A blessed Hola Mohalla.
May the spirit of seva at the langar inspire us to serve all year.
May the discipline of the Khalsa guide our days and the love of Gurbani guide our hearts.
Sarbat da bhala. May Hola Mohalla bring good to all.
May the Guru's blessing make us fearless and free of hate.
Be a saint-soldier: kind in heart, strong in spirit. A blessed Hola Mohalla.
May the Khalsa spirit of Anandpur Sahib make us brave enough to be kind.
May every drumbeat of Hola Mohalla wake up the courage sleeping in our hearts.
May we never fear anyone and never make anyone afraid. That is the Guru's teaching.
May the Nishan Sahib flying high remind us to keep our faith high too.
May Waheguru grant us strength for service, not for pride.
May the saint-soldier in each of us choose kindness first and courage always.

About Hola Mohalla

Hola Mohalla is a Sikh festival held the day after Holi, on the first of the month of Chet, in March. Guru Gobind Singh Ji began it in 1701 at Anandpur Sahib, turning the festival of colours into a day for showing courage, skill and discipline.

For about three days Anandpur Sahib in Punjab hosts a great gathering. Nihang Singhs in blue ride horses, show gatka (Sikh martial arts), swordplay and mock battles, and a procession moves with nagara drums and Nishan Sahib flags.

There is kirtan, poetry and Gurbani, and huge langars serve free food to everyone who comes. Gurdwaras in other places and abroad mark the day with prayers, kirtan and langar.

How to wish well

Happy Hola Mohalla or lakh lakh vadhaiyan suit everyone. Chardi Kala, rising spirits, fits the day well.
Speak of courage, service and the saint-soldier ideal; keep the Gurus and Gurbani respectful.
It falls the day after Holi, so a Holi wish followed by a Hola Mohalla wish the next day is thoughtful for Sikh friends.
