What is my IP address?
Your address in one tap for the office helpdesk, and proof that your VPN really works.
Your public IP address
Check any address
See if an address is public, from a home network or from your mobile provider. Add /24 or another number to see a whole range.
Find your device's own address
Inside your home or office, each phone and laptop has its own private address, given by the router. Browsers keep it hidden from websites, so here is where to look.
- 1Open Settings, then Network and internet.
- 2Choose Wi-Fi or Ethernet, then your network's Properties.
- 3Look for IPv4 address.
Or open Command Prompt and type ipconfig

Questions people ask
What is an IP address?
It is the number your connection uses on the internet, like a return address on a letter. Every website you open needs it to send the page back to you. Your internet or mobile provider gives it to your router or phone.
Can someone find my home from my IP address?
No. An IP address shows only a rough place, usually the city or region where your provider connects you, and often a city nearby. Only your provider knows which customer used an address, and they share that only with the police under the law.
Why does the place show a different city?
The place comes from a database of which provider uses which addresses where. Mobile networks and many broadband providers route you through a hub in a bigger city, and a VPN shows the city of its server. So the place is a rough guide, not where you are.
What is the difference between a public and a private IP address?
The public address is the one websites see; your whole home or office shares it. Inside, the router gives each phone and laptop its own private address, such as 192.168.1.5, which never reaches the internet. This page shows the public one, and the guide below shows where to find the private one.
Why does my IP address keep changing?
Most home and mobile plans give you an address that changes from time to time, for example when the router restarts or your phone moves between towers. A fixed (static) address is usually an extra on business plans.
How can I change or hide my IP address?
Restarting your router often gives a new address. Switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data changes it at once. A VPN shows websites the VPN server's address instead of yours. Press Check again after any of these to see the new address.
What is the difference between IPv4 and IPv6?
IPv4 addresses are four numbers like 203.0.113.42; the world ran short of them. IPv6 is the newer, much longer kind, like 2001:db8::1. Many connections have both, and your device picks one for each site.
Does sdev.in keep my IP address?
No. The server reads the address your visit came from, looks up the rough place in a database on our own server, and sends both back. It does not store them, and this page is left out of the server's request logs.
