Open the zip
Choose a .zip file or drop it on the box. The list of files shows at once with folders and sizes.
Look inside
Open folders, and press the eye button to preview text files and pictures without saving them.
Save what you need
Save one file, a folder or everything. On a computer you pick a folder and the files are written there.
Good to know
- Office documents (.docx, .xlsx, .pptx) and .epub books are zips too; open one to see the pictures inside.
- Each file is checked against the checksum stored in the zip, so a damaged download is caught.
- Previews show the first 256 KB of text and pictures up to 25 MB.
- Zips packed with methods other than the standard one (such as LZMA) are listed, but those files cannot be unpacked here.
Questions people ask
Can I open a very large zip?
Yes. Only the list of files at the end of the zip is read to show what is inside, so even multi-gigabyte zips open in a moment. Files are unpacked only when you save or preview them, piece by piece.
Why are some items not saved?
For your safety. Names that try to reach outside the folder (with ..), absolute paths and drive letters are refused. Files that would grow more than 1,000 times, share their data with another file, or add up to more than 20 GB are blocked as possible zip bombs.
Can it open password-protected zips?
No. Locked files are listed with a lock sign, but this tool cannot unlock them. Use the program that made the zip.
Where do the files go?
On a computer browser that can save to a folder, you pick the folder and the files are written there with their folders. Other browsers download a single file directly, a few files one by one, and many files as a new clean zip.
The file names look strange. Why?
Old zip programs stored names in an old character set. The tool reads names as UTF-8 first and falls back to that old set, which fixes most cases.
Are my files uploaded?
No. The zip is read in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.
