About Easter
Easter is the oldest and holiest feast of the Christian year. It celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day after his crucifixion, as told in the Gospels.
It falls on a Sunday between 22 March and 25 April, the first Sunday after the first full moon of spring. It ends Holy Week, which includes Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, and begins the fifty days of the Easter season.
Churches hold a vigil on Saturday night and joyful services on Easter morning with lilies and hymns. Families share a festive lunch, children hunt for painted or chocolate eggs, and many countries bake special breads such as hot cross buns, colomba or folar.
How people celebrate Easter

How to wish well
- Happy Easter suits everyone. For church friends, He is risen, with the reply He is risen indeed, is a joyful greeting.
- Send wishes on Easter Sunday morning. Good Friday, two days before, is a solemn day, so keep happy wishes for Sunday.
- For a mixed workplace, Happy Easter and enjoy the long weekend is warm and simple.
- Keep jokes about eggs, chocolate and bunnies, never about faith.
