Tamil text showing as English letters? Fix it in one paste

When Tamil shows as English letters such as jkpo; tho;f, it was typed in an old keyboard font like Bamini, Vanavil or a typewriter font, and your device does not have that font. Paste the text here. The converter finds the font and gives you real Unicode Tamil that shows correctly on every phone and computer.

  • The text was fine on the computer where it was typed
  • Semicolons and brackets appear in the middle of words

How to fix it

  1. Copy the strange text

Select the English-looking text in the document, message or web page and copy it.

  2. Paste it here

Paste it in the left box. Find it for me picks the font, and the Tamil shows on the right.

  3. Copy the Tamil

Copy the Unicode Tamil, or download it as a Word or .txt file. It now reads correctly everywhere.

Questions people ask

Why does Tamil show as English letters?

Old Tamil fonts put Tamil letters on the English keys. The text is stored as English letters and only looks Tamil when that exact font is installed. On any other device you see the letters underneath.

Will I lose the English words in the same text?

If you copy from a Word file or web page, the converter reads the font of each part, so English written in an English font stays English. You can also open the Word file itself.

Which font is it?

Most often Bamini or Vanavil, sometimes a typewriter layout font such as Kruti Tamil. Find it for me reads the text and names the font, with other close matches to try.

Is my text or file uploaded?

No. Everything is converted in your browser on this device. Nothing you paste or open is sent to a server.
