Questions people ask

What is the gold rate today?

The page shows today's 24K (999), 22K (916), 18K and 14K gold rates in India per gram and per 10 grams. The noon rate comes out at about 12 pm and the evening rate at about 5 pm, Monday to Friday.

Why is the shop's price higher than this rate?

These rates are before GST and making charges. A shop adds 3% GST and its own making or wastage charge, and local rates can differ a little from city to city.

What is the early view, and how is it worked out?

Gold trades around the world through the Indian night. The early view takes yesterday's evening rate and moves it by as much as world gold, in rupees, has moved since then. It is usually close to the next noon rate, but it is a calculation, not a promise.

Why did gold go up when world gold did not?

Gold in India is priced from the world price in dollars, turned into rupees. When the rupee gets weaker against the dollar, gold in rupees goes up even if the dollar price stays the same. The 'What moved the price' section splits the two.

What is the difference between 24K, 22K and 18K?

24K is 99.9% pure and used for coins and bars. 22K is 91.6% pure, marked 916, and used for most jewellery. 18K is 75% pure (750) and holds stones well.
