- 20 February every year
- 23rd state, formed 1987
- Capital Aizawl
Where it began
Mizoram means land of the Mizo people. The hills were once the Lushai Hills district of Assam, later called the Mizo district.
In 1972 Mizoram became a Union Territory. A peace accord was signed on 30 June 1986, bringing years of unrest to an end, and Mizoram became a full state on 20 February 1987.
Many people see the day as a celebration of peace as much as statehood.
