About Mid-Autumn Festival
The Mid-Autumn Festival falls on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month, when the moon is at its fullest and brightest, usually in September or early October.
It is a harvest festival and a night of family reunion. A well-known legend tells of Chang'e, who lives on the moon with a jade rabbit.
Families share mooncakes and fruit, light lanterns and sit outside to look at the moon. In Korea, Chuseok is a three-day holiday when families visit their home towns, honour ancestors and make songpyeon rice cakes. In Vietnam, Tet Trung Thu is a festival for children with lantern parades and lion dances.
